According to Indeed.com, a US HVAC technician earns an average of $24.57 per hour. The exact amount one earns depends on the experience and location.

Connecticut HVAC’s earn the highest salary at $52.93 per hour, whereas Idaho pays the lowest average salary of $22.22 per hour. Interestingly, HVAC’s on the east coast earn more as it claims eight of the10 states with the highest average salary. Iowa is the state that falls in the middle with an average salary of $28.85 per hour.

The national average for HVAC technicians weighted at $23.86 was arrived at by examining the full range of average salaries, from $8.63 to $49.97 per hour.

The state of Louisiana claims the highest-paid individual HVAC technician who earns $111.54 per hour. Additionally, Connecticut, which ranks as the highest paying state for HVAC technicians also ranks among the top four states with the highest individual salary at $75per hour. The average salary for all technicians in this state was $52.93 per hour.

Maryland is the home state for the lowest-earning HVAC tech who gets paid $6.73per hour. Meanwhile, Rhode Island and Massachusetts ranked as the states that pay the highest amount per job, the lowest paying jobs in these states were $17 per hour.

HVAC Techs Earn More Than $55,000 A Year

If the average salary for HVAC tech’$24.57 per hour, it means that on average most technicians earn more than $50,000 annually. Taking this into consideration, New Hampshire is the state with the largest percentage of high paying jobs as 24% of HVAC jobs posted pay $55,000 per year or more. But Alaska only 16.36% of jobs paying $55,000 per year making it the state with the lowest paying job postings.

Cities with the Highest-Paid HVAC Positions

Surprisingly, the cities with the highest paying HVAC jobs are not major towns. There is plenty of opportunity in small cities to earn a great wage. Danbury, CT ranked as the city with the Highest average salary whereas Idaho Falls, ID posted the lowest average HVAC salaries. The metropolitan cities of Boston, San Francisco, and Philadelphia rank in the top 10 and so does Anchorage, AK.
